I see a counselor ever couple of weeks, and he and I have spoken on this topic often. He gave me a list of hobbies and I just hated the sound of many of them. I can’t just pick up painting or playing the piano. For some reason that makes me think of Holden Caulfield (“such a phony”). It just doesn’t feel authentic to me. So, what do I actually enjoy doing? Well, work, really. I love my job, and I love doing things that might seem like work to other people. I always enjoy doing research and putting together a nice spreadsheet or list. My counselor said there aren’t any rules that say your life should be 50% work and 50% play. I am in charge of that balance, and all that matters is that I’m happy and healthy.
Where does this blog come in? Well, it started with subscription boxes. LOTS of subscription boxes. You see, I did a lot of research on them and came up with a list of the ones I was most likely to love, and when I was done analyzing everything I subscribed to them. I loved doing this research, but after following up on it, I went straight back to being bored. I couldn’t keep doing things that just ended up with me purchasing something. What could I do that would take up a lot of my time and keep me engaged? Well, I had seen a lot of YouTube unboxing videos while researching subscription boxes. Now that I had so many on the way, I could take that up as a pastime. Perfect! I purchased a video camera, a tripod, and an external harddrive and waited for my first box to arrive. I made a video or two, uploaded them, and then, yep, got bored again. I needed to expand.
I decided basically ‘what could possibly take more time than creating a social media presence?’ So here we are, and now you see why my screenname everywhere is “I was bored, so…” Too true. I plan on being very active, so please follow me. What would be even better is if you join in the conversation that way it’s not just me talking to myself all the time! Leave me comments, send me a message, and I’ll get back to you right away. We’re all in this together, right? We all have our mountains to climb. Maybe I can help put up some guide ropes along my way.
