A Book Box Subscription for a Library?

Everyone loves getting a surprise in the mail. I think this is a good portion of the appeal of subscription boxes. It’s like buying yourself monthly or quarterly gifts, each one being a complete mystery when it comes to opening the box. Subscription boxes are a lot of fun, but they’re just for personal use, right? Well… I’ve been thinking about that.

I am the school librarian for my 5th-12th grade campus. This is around 700 students, ranging in age from about 10 to 18 (not to mention all the teachers and administrators I also serve!). I’m always reading book reviews, browsing book stores, and watching BookTube videos on YouTube. There are so many great books out there that it can seem daunting! Enter book crates! There are lots of book subscription services out there, and yes, some are actually for libraries such as Junior Library Guild. However, I don’t need quite that much assistance with my collection development.

So what do I like about book subscription boxes? The stuff that comes with it. Now listen… we all enjoy mystery gifts and prizes, but middle and high school students LOVE them. What you are essentially getting with each subscription box is a new book for your library and 3-5 amazing book-related prizes. Congratulations… you are now immediately prepared to run all sorts of giveaways and contests in your library because you now have some very desirable prizes.

Check out my YouTube video from my unboxing of three OwlCrate subscription boxes and see what great items I received! Can’t you just imagine your students faces when they see these prizes? I will post soon about my contest ideas! Comment below if you have any ideas to share!
